Ready, Set, Date Your Man.

++++

When: Saturday, March 10th
Where: Benihana's! Our favorite restaurant.
What: Anniversary dinner!
Highlight: Being perplexed by a couple that looked to be on a first date.
The guy was drinking a fruity, frozen drink with an umbrella and a pineapple garnish;
the lady was drinking a Corona. (see photo below)
We also saw a grown woman do a birthday dance.
She was shaking her back side in ways and directions that I've never even seen.

love the city where you live

Y'all.

I truly hope you love the city in which you live.
I've lived in Carmel for 4 years and I grow more attached day after day.
I suppose I'm kind of spoiled because my office is basically located on the Monon Trail.
It literally takes me 10 minutes to walk downtown.
I suggested that Innovate Carmel designate a day for folks to walk, shop,
and eat downtown and low and behold they designated a day!
I walked, window shopped, and didn't eat {but} I'm sure Bub's will reel me in
for another lunch sooner rather than later.

Enjoy my little lunch excursion!

If eating a 12 stack of pancakes is your thing, be sure and get to Bub’s Café.
Bub’s Burgers is famous for their 1 pound burger called the Big Ugly,
but Bub’s Café is known for their gargantuan stack of pancakes!

Bella Chic is absolutely adorable.
They have a mix of eclectic items such as furniture, antiques, etc.
 How cool is it to work in a pink building!

Punxsutawney Phil was a little off his game this year, but I ain't complaining.
Hello summertime temperatures.
Who wants to come visit?

Grill Baby Grill

The temperatures around here have been wild. A good kind of wild. So wild that Ben started his grilling season. I just sat back and relaxed while he did all the work. Hotdogs (Bar S hotdogs to be more specific) are an absolute must for backyard grilling and they’re easy on the wallet.

Next meat to be grilled = burgers.

Thanks for reading the daily sweatpants. I'm glad we're friends.

cincinnati was {ok}

Part of our anniversary get-away was spending the night in downtown Cincinnati! Everyone that we told asked us, “Why Cincinnati?”

To some folks in the Midwest, Cincinnati is a less than desirable town and the idea that someone would spend their milestone anniversary in a place such as that is just preposterous. Well, we went, we saw, we probably won’t go back.

Nine years ago I went to Cincinnati for a Sigma Kappa conference and stayed at the exact same Hilton where we stayed over the weekend. I remember the Hilton being connected to a mall that was full of stores and full of life. I bought a black dress, a red shirt, and a pair of khaki pants that I still wear today. Back in 2004 we walked the streets of downtown to a Reds game and I have no recollection of a sketchy city. I thought things were safe and clean.

Apparently, I either had on some serious rose color glasses or it truly doesn’t take long for a city to wane. The so called mall connected to the Hilton is basically a ghost town. We had plans to eat at the mall food court for our anniversary dinner because Benihana’s in downtown Cincinnati was closed for renovations. I know the food court has no comparison to Benihana, but we were going to get our Benihana fix at the Indianapolis location so we just needed something cheap for dinner while in Cincinnati. As soon as we walked thru the hotel/mall connection, my heart sank. The mall that was once upon a time filled with stores like Gap, Express, and Limited was empty. Completely empty.

My first thought was, “darn the economy” but as we made our way to the food court I realized the economy was not the only thing to blame. The place was littered with hood rats, even at 4:30pm. Yes, we ate dinner at 4:30pm. Ben and I didn’t even stay in the food court to eat our meal; we took it to go and called it room service. My Chinese food only came with a knife, so I had to improvise.

Nonetheless, the Hilton was still nice and we took advantage of the indoor pool and hot tub. It felt like we were on vacation. Ben even let me splurge and I got a cran-grape drink that cost $2.29 cents. It truly was vacation…we even get to watch cable television! I snuck in a little Food Network while Ben was in the shower. Otherwise, ESPN was blaring the Peyton Manning courtships across the country.

So here’s to 5 years of marriage. The best years of my life.
